Artefact 4-A
Communication with parents and the wider school community
Welcome email to parents
This email was sent to a parent of child who was moving to our school from a Cycle 1 at an interstate Montessori school during a time of Covid restrictions, limiting the child’s ability to visit the class before she officially started. I therefore was keen to help her and her family to connect socially with other families from the class outside of school, and to ensure that her first week with us was as flexible as restrictions would allow, and led as much as possible by the child.
As I mention in the opening of the email, I had also met with the family online and was able to speak with the child, to ask her questions to learn a bit about her interests and how she was feeling about coming to a new school. It was also an opportunity for the family, including the child, to ask questions of me about our class, and it was a key part of beginning to build relationship with the child and her family, even before we ever met in person.
Communication of meeting minutes
This is an excerpt of an email I sent to parents following an online meeting with with them to discuss how we could work together to support their child who was encountering difficulty during the period of home-learning in 2021. This email formed a record of our conversation, ensuring we had a shared understanding of what we had discussed and stating the points of agreement reached in the meeting (click the image to access the full email).
Class update email
This is an example of an email newsletter that I send each term to update families about events or discussions we have had in class that are of relevance to the whole class community (click the image to access the full email).
